EXPRESSING DEEPEST CONDOLENCES ON THE PASSING OF MARJORIE HOPE | |

1 | WHEREAS, It is with deep sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Marjorie |
2 | Hope Martiesian of Saunderstown; and |
3 | WHEREAS, Marjorie Hope Martiesian was a woman of great accomplishment and a |
4 | teacher held in high esteem by all of her peers. She was a member of the first graduating class of |
5 | the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) and graduated from Mount St. Joseph College |
6 | with a degree in elementary education. She later earned a Master’s degree in education from |
7 | Rhode Island College; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian was a reading specialist teacher for 28 years with the |
9 | Providence School System, spending the greater part of her distinguished career at the Broad |
10 | Street Elementary School. She was a beloved figure who always went the extra mile to tutor her |
11 | students and guide them as they passed through elementary school; and |
12 | WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian was a lifelong advocate of public education. She served as a |
13 | member of the Armenian Students' Association where she served on their National Board of |
14 | Trustees and was President of the Providence branch. She was also a Board Member of the CRRI |
15 | Foundation; and |
16 | WHEREAS, In her retirement, Ms. Martiesian continued her advocacy, serving as a |
17 | Board Member of the Rochambeau Branch of the Providence Public Library and on the Board of |
18 | the Narragansett Public Library. She was also a strong supporter of their Building Fund; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian was a woman of deep faith. She was a member of Sts. Sahag |

1 | & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church where she taught Sunday School, and was a member of |
2 | the Parish Council and the Women’s Guild, and the Daughters of Vartan, where she was honored |
3 | as their Daughter of the Year; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Ms. Martiesian is survived by her siblings, Terrance Sahag Martiesian and |
5 | his wife, Dorothy, and Andrea Martiesian Doughty and her husband, Philip. She also leaves |
6 | behind her nieces and nephews, Jason, Joshua, Julia, Jennifer, Lauren, Marc, Carla, Olivia, Aram, |
7 | Sadie, Kian, Leila, Levon, Ani, Cassius, and Princeton, and her close friend, Adrienne Cady and |
8 | her husband, Dennis; now, therefore be it |
9 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
10 | expresses its deepest condolences on the passing of Marjorie Hope Martiesian; and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Terrance Sahag Martiesian and Family and |
13 | Andrea Martiesian Doughty and Family. |
