CELEBRATING "URI DAY" AT THE RHODE ISLAND STATEHOUSE ON MARCH 28,

2023

     WHEREAS, Rhode Islanders are the fortunate recipients of the innovate and well-

respected education provided by the University of Rhode Island (URI); and

     WHEREAS, Considered a “major research university”, URI offers undergraduate,

graduate, and professional courses and degrees that prepare young people and adults to become

active problem-solvers who can adapt to new situations in our ever-changing world; and

     WHEREAS, Comprised of four campuses and a diverse and vibrant student body

representing seventy-six nations, URI offers more than ninety majors, including “study abroad”

courses, and myriad summer and honors programs; and

     WHEREAS, Faculty at the University are “distinguished scholars and researchers” whose

“excellence and commitment to their students” is unsurpassed; and

     WHEREAS, Founded in 1892, URI is consistently in the top half of the rankings for

National Universities; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby

celebrates “URI Day” and thanks the University and staff for the significant contributions they

provide to our State through research and programs that improve the lives of all Rhode Islanders;

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Marc B. Parlange, President of the University

of Rhode Island.
