A N   A C T

RELATING TO INSURANCE -- ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS INSURANCE POLICIES

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Phillips, Cardillo, J. Brien, Corvese, Costantino, Lima,
Casey, Noret, and Dawson

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 27-18 of the General Laws entitled "Accident and Sickness Insurance

2

Policies" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

3

     27-18-82. Dependent health insurance protection.

4

     For the purpose of eligibility of group health insurance coverage, any dependent of an

5

employee who is eligible for employer sponsored medical health insurance coverage shall be

6

eligible to maintain such coverage, in the event said employee wishes to change their individual

7

health coverage to Medicare or is currently on Medicare.

     SECTION 2. Chapter 27-19 of the General Laws entitled "Nonprofit Hospital Service

9

Corporations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     27-19-83. Dependent health insurance protection.

11

     For the purpose of eligibility of group health insurance coverage, any dependent of an

12

employee who is eligible for employer sponsored medical health insurance coverage shall be

13

eligible to maintain such coverage, in the event said employee wishes to change their individual

14

health coverage to Medicare or is currently on Medicare.

     SECTION 3. Chapter 27-20 of the General Laws entitled "Nonprofit Medical Service

16

Corporations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     27-20-79. Dependent health insurance protection.

     For the purpose of eligibility of group health insurance coverage, any dependent of an

19

employee who is eligible for employer sponsored medical health insurance coverage shall be

eligible to maintain such coverage, in the event said employee wishes to change their individual

2

health coverage to Medicare or is currently on Medicare.

     SECTION 4. Chapter 27-41 of the General Laws entitled "Health Maintenance

4

Organizations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     27-41-96. Dependent health insurance protection.

     For the purpose of eligibility of group health insurance coverage, any dependent of an

7

employee who is eligible for employer sponsored medical health insurance coverage shall be

8

eligible to maintain such coverage, in the event said employee wishes to change their individual

9

health coverage to Medicare or is currently on Medicare.

10

     SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon passage.

BY THE LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

     This act would protect and continue health insurance coverage for the dependent of an

employee who wishes to change their health insurance coverage to Medicare or are currently on

3

Medicare.

4

     This act would take effect upon passage.
