1 | WHEREAS, It is with utmost sadness that this House has learned of the passing of Diana |
2 | Spears Mars, and the beloved life partner and wife of David Mars, Sr. for sixty-five years, and the |
3 | cherished mother of India "Misty," Tawny, David "Jeff," and Heather Angel; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Born in Westerly, Diana Spears was the daughter of the late Russell and |
5 | Grace Spears, and the oldest of twelve siblings, including the late Russell Jr., Holly, Robin, |
6 | Lance, Starr, Craig, Forest, Melody, Lake, Autumn, and Sky; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mrs. Mars lived her life on the Indigenous homelands of her people, the |
8 | Narragansett. She had been employed in the Admissions Office of URI for twenty years and |
9 | served her community as a beloved minister/Pawwaw of the Gospel and educator at Narragansett |
10 | Indian Church; and |
11 | WHEREAS, A spiritual leader who embodied the "Fruit of the Spirit", Mrs. Mars lived |
12 | her life bestowing love and beauty on all who knew her, and especially to her cherished family. |
13 | Her lively personality created and nurtured a marriage that flourished, and a home that was |
14 | welcoming and filled with nieces and nephews, cousins, and interesting friends; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Always benevolent and exuding love, Mrs. Mars possessed a great wit and |
16 | humor, and exemplified grace, panache, and unique style and fashion sense. She loved the arts, |
17 | and was a skilled songstress, gifted orator, gardener, and writer; and |
18 | WHEREAS, Diana Mars led a glorious life, and blessed with the total love and support of |
19 | her family, she embraced each and every day fully and joyfully; now, therefore be it |

1 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
2 | offers heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and friends of Diana Spears Mars; and be it |
3 | further |
4 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
5 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to David K. Mars Sr. and Family. |
