HONORING AND THANKING SALLY STRACHAN FOR HER SERVICE AND | |
CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE BETTERMENT OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Sally Strachan is a woman of immense and varied talents. She was born and |
2 | spent her youth in the South, attending Emory University and the University of South Carolina. |
3 | Her educational and certification background also includes an Executive Leadership Program, |
4 | Cornell University, a Registered Representative through the National Association of Securities |
5 | Dealers and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, and a General Registered Representative |
6 | with the Securities Association, United Kingdom; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Ms. Strachan began what would become a lifetime of amazing |
8 | accomplishments and altruistic endeavors as an Information Specialist with the Centers for |
9 | Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, followed by serving as a Senior Technical Staff |
10 | member at Princeton University. In 1985, she joined Bankers Trust Company as a Vice President, |
11 | and in 1993, was Senior Vice President at Guy Carpenter/Marsh & McLennan in New York City |
12 | and London; and |
13 | WHEREAS, To the good fortune of our State, Ms. Strachan moved to Rhode Island in |
14 | 2008, after more than twenty years in New York, when she was appointed as Administrator & |
15 | Registrar for the RI Division of Motor Vehicles; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Since 2011, Ms. Strachan has been a part of Strategic Leadership and |
17 | Organizational Development for the "Power of Possible" a management and organizational |
18 | consulting company where she developed "the Rubber Band Theory" which teaches people and |
19 | organizations to perform more efficiently with "game-changing approaches beyond what was |

1 | thought possible"; and |
2 | WHEREAS, Ms. Strachan has also extended her expertise to numerous important State |
3 | endeavors including serving as Chair of the R.I. State House Restoration Society, performing |
4 | research and work on a wide range of issue-oriented and political campaigns, serving as a board |
5 | member of the Newport Music Festival and First Works, and as a member of the Community |
6 | Advisory Board for the Junior League of Rhode Island, Board of Directors; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Providing invaluable assistance and leaving an indelible mark, Ms. Strachan |
8 | spear-headed efforts to restore the Providence Public Library (PPL) and served in a variety of |
9 | capacities including Corporator and Trustee and as a member of PPL's Capital Campaign and |
10 | Facilities Committees; and |
11 | WHEREAS, "A born and bred Southerner at heart", Ms. Strachan will sadly be leaving |
12 | her beautiful historic home in Providence and returning to her roots, but she will undoubtedly |
13 | continue to enhance, vitalize and become an invaluable part of her new community in Greenville, |
14 | South Carolina; now, therefore be it |
15 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
16 | honors and thanks Sally Strachan for all she has accomplished in bettering Rhode Island and |
17 | moreover extends sincerest wishes for her continued success and all the very best that life has to |
18 | offer; and be it further |
19 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
20 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Sally Strachan. |
