PROCLAIMING TUESDAY, MAY 30, 2023, AS "COX CHARITIES DAY" IN THE STATE | |
OF RHODE ISLAND | |

1 | WHEREAS, Cox Communications is committed to creating meaningful moments of |
2 | human connection through technology. The largest private broadband company in America, Cox |
3 | proudly serves seven million homes and businesses across 18 states. Cox Communications is the |
4 | largest division of Cox Enterprises, a family-owned business founded in 1898 by Governor James |
5 | M. Cox; and |
6 | WHEREAS, Since 2001, Cox employees and business partners have invested in Cox |
7 | Charities, a charitable giving initiative of Cox Communications. Cox Charities has invested more |
8 | than $7 million in grants and in-kind support to organizations providing S.T.E.A.M. [Science. |
9 | Technology. Engineering. Arts and Math] enrichment programs to youth throughout Connecticut, |
10 | Ohio and Rhode Island; and |
11 | WHEREAS, Cox believes in community action through giving. Cox loves the position |
12 | they hold as a contributing member of the community– their business, their employees and their |
13 | customers. This compels Cox to provide support with monetary, media and premium gift |
14 | contributions that provide goodwill to organizations and causes in need and strengthens the |
15 | social, economic and educational infrastructure of our community; and |
16 | WHEREAS, Cox demonstrates what they firmly believe by their focused areas of giving. |
17 | They concentrate their support in, but are not limited to, the following key areas: Environment -- |
18 | Cox supports organizations and initiatives that encourage environmental sustainability and |
19 | conservation; Civic and Community -- Cox supports charitable and community organizations that |

1 | make a positive difference in the communities we serve; Youth & Education -- Cox supports |
2 | programs targeted toward providing children the essentials they need to grow up into self- |
3 | supporting and contributing members of society. Realizing the importance of education, we |
4 | support initiatives that enhance educational efforts, particularly at the K-12 level; Diversity -- |
5 | Cox supports organizations that directly support the many facets of the richly diverse |
6 | communities we serve; and Technology -- Cox supports initiatives that enhance technology |
7 | curriculum for children, particularly at the K-12 level; and |
8 | WHEREAS, The 2023 Rhode Island recipients of Cox Charities grants are: The Boys and |
9 | Girls Clubs of Northern Rhode Island; The Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport County; The Cape |
10 | Verdean American Community Development; City Year, Inc; DownCity Design; Girl Scouts of |
11 | Southeastern New England; Global Science & Envirotech. Inc; STEAM Box; and the |
12 | Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council; now, therefore be it |
13 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
14 | proclaims Tuesday, May 30 of 2023, to be "Cox Charities Day" in the State of Rhode Island and |
15 | offers our sincerest congratulations to all of the 2023 Cox Charities Grant Recipients, and thanks |
16 | Cox for its philanthropic efforts in Rhode Island; and be it further |
17 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
18 | transmit duly certified copies of the resolution to Mr. Ross Nelson, Market Vice President Cox |
19 | Communications and Ms. Rosie Fernandez, Manager of Community Relations for Cox |
20 | Communications East. |
