HONORING STEVEN LUKOWICZ ON HIS RETIREMENT AFTER THIRTY-SEVEN | |
YEARS OF EDUCATIONAL EXCELLENCE WITH COVENTRY'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS | |

1 | WHEREAS, To the very good fortune of many a Coventry student, Steven Lukowicz |
2 | began his compassionate and dedicated career in the field of education as a teacher in Coventry’s |
3 | public schools in 1986; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Holding a myriad of positions during his tenure as an educator, Mr. |
5 | Lukowicz taught life science at Coventry Middle School for seven years until transferring to |
6 | Coventry High School in 1994, where he has remained for more than three decades; and |
7 | WHEREAS, During his tenure at the High School, Mr. Lukowicz formed strong bonds |
8 | with both students and staff. In addition to his teaching duties, he coached football and mentored |
9 | more than twenty-five student teachers and served as an informal mentor to dozens of science, |
10 | mathematics, and business colleagues by sharing his lesson plans and teaching strategies; and |
11 | WHEREAS, During the school’s decennial accreditation process from the New England |
12 | Association of Schools and Colleges, Mr. Lukowicz served as co-chairperson, and thanks to his |
13 | diligent and punctilious efforts, the school’s accreditation was renewed for ten years and earned |
14 | forty-one commendations; and |
15 | WHEREAS, In 2017, having earned the respect of his peers, Mr. Lukowicz was named |
16 | Chair of the Science Department. As Chair, he is credited with increasing the school’s NGSA |
17 | science test scores, initiating more pathway programs for students, and spearheading efforts to |
18 | streamline the science, business, and technology curriculums; and |
19 | WHEREAS, Extraordinary people never retire, they just begin a new chapter of their |

1 | lives. Such is the case with Steven Lukowicz who will be enjoying some much-deserved time at |
2 | Bonnet Shores Beach in the summer, becoming a “snowbird” during Rhode Island’s long winter |
3 | months, and perhaps tackling a few items on his wife’s honey-do list; and |
4 | WHEREAS, Steven Lukowicz, by virtue of his numerous and selfless accomplishments, |
5 | serves as a model for all our educational leaders; now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island hereby |
7 | honors and commends Steven Lukowicz on his retirement after thirty-seven years of devoted |
8 | service to decades of young people and the Coventry School Department. We thank him for all |
9 | his efforts and wish him good health, fulfillment and much success in all his future endeavors; |
10 | and be it further |
11 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
12 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Steven Lukowicz. |
