1 | WHEREAS, The James Beard Awards are considered the "culinary world's Oscars". |
2 | Awardees are the cream of the crop and the best of the best, and this year that list includes Sherry |
3 | Pocknett, owner and chef extraordinaire at the Sly Fox Den Too in Charlestown; and |
4 | WHEREAS, James Beard was a legendary chef, cookbook author, and television |
5 | personality, and the awards given in his name have become coveted accolades that can define an |
6 | individual or restaurant's legacy; and |
7 | WHEREAS, Sherry Pocknett is a member of the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and is the |
8 | first Indigenous female chef winner of a James Beard Award. Her restaurant, the Sly Fox Den |
9 | Too, opened in 2021, and is named after her father, Chief Sly Fox; and |
10 | WHEREAS, Sly Fox Den Too is a unique culinary experience featuring local Native |
11 | American cuisine from corn cakes made with ground yellow cornmeal and dried cranberries to |
12 | quahog chowder, and guaranteed to make a repeat visit inevitable; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Chef Pocknett grew up with a love for nature's seasonal bounties, whether it |
14 | was eels, duck, herring, fiddlehead ferns, or scallops, there would always be a special recipe to |
15 | tantalize the taste buds; and |
16 | WHEREAS, As her father had taught her, Chef Pocknett is teaching her daughters, Jade |
17 | Pocknett-Galvin and Cheyenne Pocknett-Galvin to continue the family tradition and build and |
18 | expand on her dreams and success in creating unforgettable culinary experiences for their very |
19 | fortunate patrons; now, therefore be it |

2 | congratulates Sherry Pocknett on earning the prestigious James Beard "Best Chef Northeast" |
