CONGRATULATING AND HONORING FRANK CARPANO ON HIS INDUCTION INTO | |
THE RHODE ISLAND RADIO AND TELEVISION HALL OF FAME | |

1 | WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Radio and Television Hall of Fame annually recognizes |
2 | the leadership, dedication and achievements of longstanding on-air radio and television |
3 | contributors who have not only risen to the top of their careers, but have also earned distinction |
4 | and the respect of their peers and the citizens of Rhode Island; and |
5 | WHEREAS, Frank Carpano’s love for sports broadcasting began in high school with his |
6 | dad driving him to and from his work at the local radio station. In 1980, he joined the staff at |
7 | NBC 10, and since 1984, has been the beloved sports director and primary sports anchor, |
8 | informing avid fans on Super Bowls, Stanley Cups, World Series championships, as well as local |
9 | college and high school sports, and Little League championships; and |
10 | WHEREAS, In addition to his time on the air at NBC, Mr. Carpano has also been a fill-in |
11 | sports anchor at WNBC-TV in New York City, served as play-by-play announcer for local |
12 | colleges and high schools games including Brown University football, Providence College |
13 | hockey and as the announcer at the Providence Dunkin & Donuts Center for PC’s basketball |
14 | games, and as a Championship Boxing ring announcer; and |
15 | WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career, Mr. Carpano has been honored with |
16 | myriad accolades and tributes including being a two-time Olympic torch carrier and the recipient |
17 | of a New England Emmy for his series of reports on his preparation for the torch run. He has also |
18 | been a 12-time National Association of Sportscasters and Sportswriters “Sportscaster of the |
19 | Year”, and was inducted as a member of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences – |

2 | WHEREAS, Frank Carpano’s career is eminently deserving of the accolades and regard |
3 | he has been afforded and is worthy of our recognition and admiration; now, therefore be it |
4 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby joins the family, |
5 | friends, and many fans in honoring Frank Carpano, on behalf of all Rhode Islanders, for his |
6 | eloquent and informative career and his 2022 induction into the Rhode Island Radio and |
7 | Television Hall of Fame; and be it further |
8 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
9 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Frank Carpano. |
