A N   A C T

RELATING TO TOWNS AND CITIES -- HISTORICAL AREA ZONING

     Introduced By: Senators Valverde, Sosnowski, and Gu

     It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 45-24.1 of the General Laws entitled "Historical Area Zoning" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

     45-24.1-24. Preservation of historic structures in South Kingstown.

     In addition to all other powers granted by the provisions of this chapter, the town of South

Kingstown is authorized, by ordinance, to establish, upon recommendation of its historic district

commission, a list of specified buildings or structures that are deemed to be of historic or

architectural value. The town of South Kingstown is further authorized, by ordinance, to add to or

delete from the list, and to require that demolition of listed properties be delayed to provide time to

evaluate prescribed alternatives to demolition.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.

     This act would authorize the town of South Kingstown to adopt a local ordinance to delay

the demolition of historic properties located in the town.

     This act would take effect upon passage.
