CONGRATULATING TAMMY LEMIEUX ON BEING NAMED THE 2023 "DISTRICT | |
TEACHER OF THE YEAR" BY THE CUMBERLAND SCHOOL DEPARTMENT | |

1 | WHEREAS, Tammy Lemieux, a Transition Classroom teacher with the Cumberland |
2 | School Department, inspires her students to envision the possibilities, to have confidence in |
3 | themselves and their abilities, and to believe in a future full of promise; and |
4 | WHEREAS, For her dedication to young people and education, Ms. Lemieux has been |
5 | named the 2023 "District Teacher of the Year" by the Cumberland School Department. This |
6 | recognition is a momentous tribute to an exceptional individual who has had a significant and |
7 | profound impact on the lives of her students; and |
8 | WHEREAS, Combining a genuine love of teaching with boundless smiles and |
9 | encouragement, Ms. Lemieux began her career in education in 2006, as a resource teacher at |
10 | North Cumberland Middle School. She subsequently took a position as a coordinator of Special |
11 | Education at Cumberland High School until 2022, when she found her true calling working with |
12 | special education students in the trade and vocational program; and |
13 | WHEREAS, Ms. Lemieux's Transition Classroom program guides special education |
14 | young people through the intricacies and nuances of everyday life that they will face after high |
15 | school, including such day-to-day tasks as cooking meals and performing the myriad household |
16 | chores such as cleaning up for themselves and doing laundry; and |
17 | WHEREAS, Each week, Ms. Lemieux and her students also travel to community sites to |
18 | ultimately prepare them for future employment opportunities at local businesses; and |
19 | WHEREAS, In addition to helping her students become involved with community |

1 | service, Ms. Lemieux also volunteers her time at the MAE Organization, as a coach for a unified |
2 | volleyball team, and as an advisor with the Helping Hands Interact Club; and |
3 | WHEREAS, The positive impact that Ms. Lemieux has had on her students' lives has |
4 | certainly qualified her as one of the "best of the best" in her school district, and she has wholly |
5 | distinguished herself as a person worthy of our praise and admiration; now, therefore be it |
6 | RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island hereby recognizes and |
7 | congratulates Tammy Lemieux on the prestigious honor of being named the 2023 "District |
8 | Teacher of the Year" by the Cumberland School Department. We moreover extend our best |
9 | wishes for her continued success, good health and happiness; and be it further |
10 | RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and hereby is authorized and directed to |
11 | transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Ms. Tammy Lemieux. |
