INVOCATION

FATHER MARCEL TAILLON
Chaplain, Bishop Hendricken

House of Representatives January 4, 2000 AD (We call to mind we are in the Holy Presence of God)

Almighty and Eternal God, You have revealed Your glory to all the nations. God of power and might, wisdom and justice, through You authority is rightly administered, laws are enacted and judgment is decreed.

We pause as we begin the new millennium, the 2000th Anniversary of the birth of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Let us pause for a moment and reflect upon the blessings God has bestowed on each of us in the past.

We also pause to reflect upon our sufferings, those we have endured, those that we continue to endure. We ask for the grace of perseverance upon members of this Assembly who suffer as elected officials for seeking to do what is right ... grant the members of this House the strength to - endure patiently ... grant them Your powerful protection to discharge their duties. -

We likewise commend to Your unbounded mercy the citizens of this state of Rhode Island that are served by this House of Representatives ... may we all be blessed and sanctified.

And lastly, we pause to remember those who have gone before us, member of our families and friends, former members of this House, former Representative Jim Kelso, and all those who have made it possible for us to be here today and embark on the task at hand.

May we persevere in union with each other and find peace that this passing world cannot give, and after enjoying the blessings of this life be admitted to those which are eternal.

We pray all this to You 0 God who is forever and ever..Amen.
