The Senate meets pursuant to adjournment and is called to order by His Honor, the Lieutenant Governor, Charles J. Fogarty, at 4:05 o'clock P.M.

SENATOR PAUL S. KELLY

As we again begin anew, Lord, we ask that strength and courage be given to all who work for a world of reason and understanding. May the good that lies in each of us be magnified and remain with us every day of this new year. We ask that you bestow a special blessing of good health:and happiness on each member of this chamber and their families.Amen.



Appendix


RECESS IN MEMORY OF RALPH R. aRUSSO

SENATOR WILLIAM P. TOCCO, JR.

As you all know, our former Mayor from Johnston, Ralph R. aRusso, passed away on December 27, 1999. A loving and caring husband, father, grandfather and to the rest a great man, and great friend.

Mayor aRusso was born April 26, 1923 one of twelve 12 children to Thomas and Maria Russo. He attended the public schools in Johnston. Continued his education at Bryant College; took courses at the Grove City Radio School in Pennsylvania and Corpus C Christi Radar School in Corpus Christi Texas. His education continued at Johnson Wales where he studied banking; business law at the Industrial National Bank in Providence and human relations and life insurance in New York City.

He joined the US Marine Corps and spent four years in that branch of service of which 18 months were spent in the Asiatic Pacific combat zone where he served in the Okinawa Operation.

He began his career as an agent for Met Life Ins. and - remained there for 14 years; served as an Asst. Bank Mgr, for the former Greater Providence Trust Co., where he later became Finance Director for the Town of Johnston. He remained active in politics and in 1970 was elected Town Administrator and in 1971 and served in that capacity as Administrator and Mayor for 24 years.

Mayor aRusso married the former Tina Butera and have 6 children, Dennis, David, Donna, Denise and Diane, 8 grandchildren and very soon to be 9 grandchildren.

Mayor aRusso began his journey into life in 1923 was laid to rest on the very last day of the century. The Alpha and the Omega - a great man, a great friend - may he always rest in peace. Gob Bless!!
