Representative Martineau introduces (01-H 5000) Joint Resolution of Adjournment.

Representative Martineau requests unanimous consent for immediate consideration to adjourn the 2000 Legislative Session.

There is no objection.

Read and passed, on motion of Representative Martineau, seconded by Representatives Henseler, Sherlock, Flaherty and several other members of the House, and by unanimous consent, on a voice vote. The Legislative Session for Friday, June 30, 2000 adjourns, at 3:10 o'clock P.M., on motion of Representative Martineau, seconded by Representatives Henseler, Sherlock and the entire House of Representatives, by unanimous consent, on a voice vote. The House of Representatives meets at the State House in Providence, Tuesday, January 2, 2001, and is called to order at 3:15 o'clock P.M., by the Honorable John B. Harwood, Speaker.

NOW PRESIDING

At 3:16 o'clock P.M. the Honorable Speaker yields the rostrum to Representative Crowley, senior member of the House present, from Newport.

INVOCATION

At 3:17 o'clock P.M. Representative Crowley yields the rostrum to Reverend Paul Koumrian of Tiverton, Rhode Island. The House attends as Reverend Paul Koumrian delivers the Invocation. The Chair calls upon Representative Benson to lead the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

ELECTION OF SPEAKER


Representative Crowley calls for nominations.

Representative Pires nominates Representative John B. Harwood to be Speaker for a fifth term. The nomination is seconded by Representative M. Anderson.

Representative Pires congratulates all new and returning members of the House.

Representative Inman, seconded by Representative Menard, moves that nominations be closed.

The motion to close nominations prevails, on a voice vote.

Representative Winfield moves that Representative Pires cast one ballot for Representative John B. Harwood as Speaker of the House.

The motion is seconded by Representative M. Anderson and several other members of the House.

Also;

The election of Representative John B. Harwood as Speaker of the House prevails, on a voice vote.

The Chair declares John B. Harwood is reelected Speaker of the House for the years 2001 and 2002.

APPOINTMENTS
The Chair appoints Representatives Coderre, Cambio, Pires, Watson and San Bento as a committee to escort the reelected Speaker to the rostrum.
