The House of Representatives meets at the State House in Providence, Wednesday, January 2, 2002, and is called to order at 4:00 o'clock P.M., by the Honorable John B. Harwood, Speaker.
The roll is called and a quorum is declared present with 98 members present and 2 members absent as follows:
The Honorable Speaker presents Representative Knickle, who delivers the Invocation and leads the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag.

ANNOUNCEMENT
Representative Elaine Coderre and Representative Suzanne Henseler are absent from today's session. They are out of town on state business.
COMMUNICATION FROM THE SENATE

(02-S 2002) An Act to vacate the forfeiture or revocation of the charter of E.R. Lynch Painting and Maintenance, Inc.

The Honorable Speaker Harwood and Representatives Naughton, Martineau, Henseler, Menard and several other members of the House introduce (02-H 6603) House Resolution recognizing the Honorable Barbara C. Burlingame (posthumously) for all her contributions to the city of Woonsocket, the town of North Smithfield and the state of Rhode Island.
Majority Leader Martineau requests unanimous consent for immediate consideration.
There is no objection.

Representative Fox introduces (02-H 6604) Joint Resolution extending the reporting date of the legislative commission to study the public purposes to be advanced by the redevelopment of those areas made available by the relocation of Route 195.
Representative Fox requests unanimous consent for immediate consideration.

CONDOLENCES
Representative Savage, as part of the East Providence delegation, expresses his condolences to the family of Captain Alister McGregor and his sympathy and understanding also goes out to the other people involved in the incident.

By unanimous consent, all matters on the Clerk's desk are ordered to be transmitted to His Excellency, the Governor, and to the Honorable Senate forthwith.
