RELATING TO CHIROPRACTORS

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

SECTION 1. Section 5-30-1 of the General Laws in Chapter 5-30 entitled "Chiropractors" is hereby amended to read as follows:

5-30-1. "Chiropractic" defined. 5-30-1. "Chiropractic medicine" defined. -- For the purpose of this chapter, the practice of "chiropractic medicine" is defined as the science and art of mechanical and material healing as follows: the employment of a system of palpating and adjusting the articulations of the human spinal column and its appendages, by hand and electro-mechanical appliances, and the employment of corrective orthopedics and dietetics for the elimination of the cause of disease; provided that chiropractic physicians may not write prescriptions for drugs for internal medication nor practice major surgery as defined in chapter 5-37.

SECTION 2. Chapter 5-30 of the General Laws entitled "Chiropractors" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

5-30-1.05. Chiropractor and chiropractic references. -- All references in the general laws to "chiropractor" or "chiropractors" shall be changed to read "chiropractic physician" or "chiropractic physicians" as appropriate and all references to the practice of "chiropractic" shall be construed to refer to the practice of "chiropractic medicine" as defined in section 5-30-1.

SECTION 3. This act shall take effect upon passage.
