RELATING TO THE TOWN OF HOPKINTON JUVENILE HEARING BOARD

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:


SECTION 1. Section 2 of chapter 37 of the public laws of 1998 entitled "An Act Relating to the Town of Hopkinton -- Juvenile Hearing Board" is hereby amended to read as follows:

Section 2. Membership. -- (a) The membership of the Hopkinton Juvenile Hearing Board (the board) shall consist of not less than five (5) nor more than seven (7) eight (8) electors of the town of Hopkinton over the age of eighteen (18) years.

(b) The members of the board shall be appointed by majority vote of the town council.

(c) The term of appointment for members of the board shall be for three (3) years, except that the initial appointments shall be for less than three (3) years, thereby staggering the initial appointment. There shall be two (2) alternate members, each appointed by majority vote of the town council.

(d) Appointed members of the board shall be eligible for reappointment, and upon expiration of their term shall continue to serve until replaced or reappointed. In the event of a vacancy on the board, interim appointments of appointed members may be made by the town council to complete the unexpired term of the vacant position.

SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
