MEMORIALIZING CONGRESS TO PROCLAIM SEPTEMBER 11TH AS "NATIONAL HEROES AND REMEMBRANCE DAY"

WHEREAS, On September 11, 2001, thousands of innocent victims perished in the worst terrorist attack on America in our nation's history; and

WHEREAS, The blameless men, women and children, who lost their lives in the blink of an eye, during a morning of shocking cruelty, will be forever etched into our hearts and minds; and

WHEREAS, As our world watched shaken and shattered, amazing stories of human bravery began to unfold. Stories of incredible men and women, who would not yield to fear, often risking and sacrificing their very lives to save or rescue others, were broadcast to the world in heart-wrenching detail; and

WHEREAS, The acts of bravery and heroism, such as the steadfast resolve and valor of the New York City Firefighters, the courageous acts of the Flight 93 passengers, and the dedicated tenacity of all the men and women working tirelessly to restore order out of unimaginable chaos, should be honored and remembered every year; and

WHEREAS, September 11th will be a day for each American, from every walk of life, to take a moment to remember the lives of those men and women who never came home from work that morning; to recall and pay homage to all the brave heroes who no longer walk among us; and to pay tribute to the steadfast champions who took up the gauntlet that morning and even now continue to protect our communities and the American way of life; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations hereby memorializes the Congress of the United States to proclaim September 11th as "National Heroes and Remembrance Day"; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to transmit a duly certified copy of the resolution to the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation.
