S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

MEMORIALIZING PRESIDENT GEORGE W. BUSH TO SUPPORT INCREASED

FEDERAL FUNDING FOR QUALITY BREAST CANCER RESEARCH

         

     Introduced By: Senators Polisena, Damiani, Roberts, Algiere, and Goodwin

     Date Introduced: March 26, 2003

 

 

     WHEREAS, The National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) has made breast cancer a

political issue and continues to set a public policy agenda critical to eradicating this disease; and

     WHEREAS, NBCC’s nationwide network of powerful grassroots advocates fight for

legislation and initiatives that move the nation closer to this goal; and

     WHEREAS, The causes and cures for breast cancer will not be found only by looking in

test tubes; and

     WHEREAS, Such causes and cures must be fought for in public policy forums, at

research conferences, and in the voting booth; and

     WHEREAS, The local Rhode Island Breast Cancer Coalition advocates ensure that local

women have access to screening and treatment when breast cancer is diagnosed; now, therefore

be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby urges President George W. Bush to join the mission of the National Breast Cancer

Coalition to eradicate breast cancer by:

      - increasing federal funding for quality peer-reviewed breast cancer research; and

     - guaranteeing access to quality breast cancer early detection and treatment for all

      women; and

     - enhancing the involvement and influence of trained breast cancer advocates in

      all aspect of breast cancer policy and research; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the President of the United States of America.
