H O U S E   R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF OCTOBER, 2003 AS "NIEMANN-PICK DISEASE

AWARENESS MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

   

     Introduced By: Representatives Enos, Winfield, Aubin, Lally, and Laroche

     WHEREAS, Niemann-Pick Disease is a devastating metabolic disease that affects

children and adults; and

     WHEREAS, A rare genetic illness often difficult to diagnose, Niemann-Pick Disease has

no known cure or treatment; and

     WHEREAS, Many families living in the State of Rhode Island are affected by this

disease; and

     WHEREAS, Promoting awareness of the disease will aid in finding a cure and improving

diagnosis; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proclaims the month of October, 2003 as "Niemann-Pick Disease

Awareness Month" in the State of Rhode Island. We urge the Director of the Department of

Health and Human Services to plan awareness events across the State to further the knowledge

and understanding of this devastating illness to all citizens of the State; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Director of the Rhode Island Department of

Health and Human Services.
