A N A C T

RELATING TO UNFAIR SALES PRACTICES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 6-13 of the General Laws entitled "Unfair Sales Practices" is

hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

6-13-19. Requiring consumers to furnish social security numbers and motor vehicle

operator's licenses. – No person, firm, corporation or other business entity which offers discount

cards for purchases made at any business maintained by the offeror shall require that a consumer

of goods who applies for a discount card furnish his or her social security number as a condition

precedent to the application for the consumer discount card. No information obtained on the

application or by use of a discount card can be sold or given to any other person, firm,

corporation or business entity.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
