A N A C T

RELATING TO BUSINESSES AND PROFESSIONS - NURSES

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 5-34 of the General Laws entitled "Nurses" is hereby amended by

adding thereto the following section:

5-34-19.1. Applications to include data on race and ethnic background. –

Applications for all licenses and/or all license renewals issued pursuant to this chapter shall

include an optional section requesting data on the race and ethnic background of the applicant;

provided, however, that the applicant shall in no way be required to provide the information. The

data obtained from the response to such section shall be tabulated by the board of nurse

registration and nursing education.

This data shall remain confidential and can be released only in the aggregate.

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
