H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

RENAMING, AMENDING AND EXTENDING THE REPORTING DATE OF THE SPECIAL HOUSE COMMISSION TO STUDY THE DESIGNATION OF ROUTE 14 AS AN HISTORIC HIGHWAY

     RESOLVED, That the name of the special house commission created by resolution No.

102 passed by the house of representatives at its January session, A.D. 2001, and approved March

22, 2001, entitled "House Resolution Creating a Special House Commission to Study the

Designation of Route 14 as an Historic Highway" shall hereby be known as "A Special House

Commission to Study the Designation of Route 14 as an Historic Highway in Commemoration of

General Rochambeau's March to Yorktown in the Revolutionary War"; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the composition of said house commission is hereby amended to

consist of seven (7) members: four (4) of whom shall be from the house of representatives, not

more than two (2) from the same political party, of whom one (1) shall be a representative from

Newport, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall be a resident of Newport versed

in Revolutionary War history, to be appointed by the speaker; one (1) of whom shall be the House

Parliamentarian; and one (1) of whom shall be the Executive Director of the Rhode Island

Historical Preservation and Heritage Commission, or designee; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the purpose of said commission shall be to study the designation of

Route 14 as an historic highway as a tribute to the march of General Jean Baptiste Donatien de

Vimeur, comte de Rochambeau and his troops on said road on the way to meet General George

Washington at Yorktown, and to coordinate its work with the Washington-Rochambeau

Revolutionary Route project, a nine-state federal historic trail overseen by the National Park

Service following the route taken by General Washington and General Rochambeau during the

American Revolutionary War; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the special house commission created by resolution No. 102 passed by

the house of representatives at its January session, A.D. 2001, and approved March 22, 2001

entitled “House Resolution Creating a Special House Commission to Study the Designation of

Route 14 as an Historic Highway” and as amended by resolution No. 52, passed by the house of

representatives at its January session, A.D. 2002, and approved January 30, 2002, entitled "House

Resolution Extending the Reporting Date of the Special House Commission to Study the

Designation of Route 14 as an Historic Highway" and as further amended by resolution No. 6125,

passed by the house of representatives at its January session 2003, and approved February 26,

2003, entitled “House Resolution Renaming, Amending and Extending the Reporting Date of the

Special House Commission to study the Designation of Route 14 as an Historic Highway” is

hereby authorized to continue its study and make a report to the house of representatives on or

before January 31, 2005, and said commission shall expire on March 31, 2005; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the time for reporting authorized by resolution No. 102, passed by the

house of representatives at its January session, A.D. 2001, and approved March 22, 2001, and

extended by resolution No. 52 passed by the house of representatives at its January session, A.D.

2002, and approved January 30, 2002, and as further extended by resolution No. 6125 passed by

the house of representatives at its January session, A.D. 2003, and approved February 26, 2003,

be and the same are hereby rescinded.
