S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

MOURNING THE FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF THE STATION NIGHTCLUB FIRE ON

FEBRUARY 20TH

        

     Introduced By: Senators Celona, Alves, Tassoni, Walaska, and J Montalbano

     Date Introduced: February 11, 2004

 

 

     WHEREAS, On February 20, 2003, fire quickly engulfed a Rhode Island nightclub

killing 100 people and injuring over 200. Nationwide, millions of television viewers watched the

horrific scene unfolding; and

     WHEREAS, Hundreds of Rhode Island families were shattered as the pain of losing a

loved one left a heartrending void in their lives; and

     WHEREAS, Over the past year Rhode Islanders have pulled together, creating stronger

new fire safety laws, volunteering to work with survivors and family members in an attempt to

ease their sorrow, and establishing funds to aid those directly affected by the fire, including the 60

children who lost one or both parents; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby expresses our deepest personal sympathies to the families and friends of the victims of

The Station Nightclub Fire on this first anniversary of that tragic night. We ask all Rhode

Islanders to take a moment and remember the lives of those men and women who never came

home; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That we respectfully request Governor Carcieri to fly all flags at half mast

in honor of The Station Fire Victims; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he is hereby authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the families of the victims of The Station

Nightclub Fire.
