S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING APRIL AS "FINANCIAL LITERACY FOR YOUTH MONTH"

     WHEREAS, Financial literacy is critical to enabling Rhode Islanders to achieve their

personal financial goals and maintain a better quality of life for themselves; and

     WHEREAS, Many young people find it difficult to manage their first consumer credit

endeavor because they lack knowledge and experience; and

     WHEREAS, Personal financial practices and habits are developed during one's formative

learning years; and

     WHEREAS, Acquisition of financial literacy skills by Rhode Island youth will improve

the quality of their lives as adults, will provide them with skills for success, will contribute to

positive changes for the communities in which they live and work, and will benefit the economy

of this state; and

     WHEREAS, Public and private partnerships such as JumpStart Rhode Island, seek to

improve the personal financial literacy of Rhode Islanders, especially youth, by promoting

educational initiatives and resources in the classrooms; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims April as "Financial Literacy for Youth Month" and urges all Rhode Islanders to

join all states in the nation to move forward by investing early to solve America's education crisis.
