H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING MAY 12, 2004 AS "RHODE ISLAND CERTIFIED SCHOOL NURSE-

TEACHERS DAY"

     

     Introduced By: Representatives McNamara, Corvese, Savage, Ajello, and Naughton

     WHEREAS, Today’s certified school nurse-teachers play a crucial role in many

children’s primary and preventative health care. The outstanding service of these dedicated

professionals, in our schools, helps to maintain and improve the health of our children by

assisting them in attaining a high level of wellness; and

     WHEREAS, There is a critical link between a child’s best possible health and their

school achievement. The educational potential of all students is enhanced by resolving health

concerns that can and often do create barriers to learning; and

     WHEREAS, School nurse-teachers are liaisons between education and health care,

providing a link between the school, home, community, and health care providers. This is a

physically, mentally and emotionally demanding task; and

     WHEREAS, The State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations is proud of the

leadership, dedication and skill provided to the children of this state by certified school nurse-

teachers. They perform a vital service by insuring the optimum health and well-being of students

via information, instruction and quality medical assistance; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby declares May 12, 2004 as “Rhode Island Certified School Nurse-

Teachers Day,” and urges all citizens, all educational associations, all news media and other

community organizations to join in this salute by encouraging and promoting the goals of

Certified School Nurse-Teachers as they contribute daily to the health and well-being of children

in our state; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the President of the Rhode Island Association

of Certified School Nurse-Teachers.
