H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

CELEBRATING SEPTEMBER OF 2004 AS NATIONAL ALCOHOL AND DRUG

ADDICTION RECOVERY MONTH IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives E Coderre, Handy, Giannini, Picard, and Dennigan

     WHEREAS, Alcohol and drug addiction devastates families, tears friendships apart, and

oftentimes destroys a persons hopes and ambitions; and

     WHEREAS, The path to recovery from drug and alcohol addiction is a difficult and

ongoing process and many people are unable to receive the help they need. There still exist a

multitude of hurdles that impede a full and successful recovery process for people in Rhode

Island. These stumbling blocks include inadequate public and private insurance coverage and a

lack of consistent and adequate funding for programs due to decreasing state budgets; and

     WHEREAS, An increase in public awareness and an increase in the availability and

effectiveness of alcohol and drug addiction recovery treatment programs in Rhode Island will

better serve the citizens of our state to effectively treat and support others in overcoming

addiction; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby joins with the Rhode Island CAREs to celebrate National Alcohol

and Drug Addiction Recovery during the month of September, 2004. In support of this year’s

theme, “Join the Voices for Recovery…Now!” we call upon all the people of the State of Rhode

Island to observe this month with appropriate programs, activities and ceremonies; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives recognizes and fully supports the

valiant efforts of those citizens who are in recovery from their addictions, as well as thanking

those dedicated professionals, volunteers, clergy, community groups, friends, and family

members who provide crucial treatment and caring assistance to these individuals, through

education, support, and treatment programs; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Rhode Island CAREs.
