A N A C T

RELATING TO MOTOR AND OTHER VEHICLES -- MOTOR VEHICLE REPARATIONS ACT

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

     SECTION 1. Chapter 31-47 of the General Laws entitled "Motor Vehicle Reparations

Act" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section:

31-47-12.1. Right to choose auto body repair facility. – Any evidence of proof of

financial responsibility or security shall include the following statement therein: "Pursuant to

Rhode Island insurance law, an insurance company cannot require that repairs be made to a motor

vehicle by any particular auto body repair shop or facility.”

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect 60 days after passage and shall apply to proof of

insurance identification cards issued to policy holders upon renewal.
