H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

CREATING A SPECIAL HOUSE COMMISSION TO STUDY EXCESSIVE NOISE IN

PUBLIC PLACES AND THE HAZARD THEREOF

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Jacquard, Lewiss, and Schadone

     Date Introduced: February 17, 2005

 

 

 

     RESOLVED, That a special House Commission be and the same is hereby created

consisting of seven (7) members with three (3) representatives from the house with no more than

two (2) members to be from the majority party; one (1) of whom shall be a Public Member to be

appointed by the Speaker; one (1) of whom is to be the chair of the commission on deaf and hard of

hearing impaired or his/her designee; and two (2) members appointed by the chair of the

commission on deaf and hard of hearing.

     The purpose of said commission shall be to study the health hazards of excessive noise

levels in public places, including, but not limited to, movie theaters advertising future shows and

events at the Providence Civic Center like the monster truck shows, and how to go about properly

warning the public, and the venue staff, when such an event is going to take place.

     Forthwith, upon passage of this resolution, the members of the commission shall meet at

the call of the Speaker and organize, and shall select from among the legislators a chairperson.

Vacancies in said commission shall be filled in like manner as the original appointment.

     The membership of said commission shall receive no compensation for their services.

     All departments and agencies of the state shall furnish such advice and information,

documentary and otherwise, to said commission and its agents as is deemed necessary or

desirable by the commission to facilitate the purposes of this resolution.

     The Speaker of the House is hereby authorized and directed to provide suitable quarters

for said commission; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the commission shall report its findings and recommendations to the

House of Representatives no later than February 14, 2006 and said commission shall expire on

April 14, 2006.
