S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

CELEBRATING THE RHODE ISLAND YMCAS "ADVOCACY DAY"

     WHEREAS, The YMCA is a charitable, voluntary, community-based association

dedicated to improving the quality of life for children, youth, adults, and families through

programs that build spirit, mind and body; and

     WHEREAS, Known for their comprehensive health and fitness activities, the YMCA

excels in educating individuals on how to lead healthier lives. In addition, the YMCA promotes

the teaching and role modeling of four key character values: caring, honesty, respect and

responsibility; and

     WHEREAS, YMCAs are the number one providers of licensed child-care in the state of

Rhode Island, providing a healthy, safe and nurturing environment for 9,000 youths every day;

and

     WHEREAS, The YMCA has over 130,000 members, 46,000 under the age of 18,

engaged in activities and services to build healthier spirits, minds and bodies. The YMCA

provides over $2,100,000 in financial assistance to 15,500 individuals and families so that all can

participate in YMCA programs and services, regardless of their ability to pay; and

     WHEREAS, The YMCA brings together young and old, men and women, and people of

all faiths and incomes, and provides these individuals with opportunities for personal

development and fosters their sense of responsibility to one another and to the local, national, and

world community; and

     WHEREAS, The State Alliance of Rhode Island YMCAs represent all six Rhode Island

YMCA organizations and promotes the growth of the YMCA movement in Rhode Island,

enhancing programming, coordinating policy advocacy on issues, and is always striving for

excellence in everything they do; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby congratulates the state's YMCAs and the state Alliance of Rhode Island YMCAs and their

unity of direction. We wish them continued success in all their future endeavors; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the State Alliance of Rhode Island YMCAs.
