Introduced By: Representatives McNamara, Dennigan, and Trillo

     Date Introduced: April 28, 2005

WHEREAS, Brain tumors are the leading cause of solid tumor cancer death in children

under the age of 20, now surpassing acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), and are the third

leading cause of cancer related deaths in young adults ages 20-39; and

WHEREAS, Brain tumors can be malignant or benign, and in either case can be life

threatening; and

only through public awareness can a brain tumor research partnership between the public and

private sector drive new therapies and treatment options for these children and adults; and

the medical and scientific communities the opportunity to improve outcomes for brain tumor

patients; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proclaims May 1 – 7, 2005 as "Brain Tumor Awareness Week."
