S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

RESPECTFULLY URGING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO INTRODUCE AND

SUPPORT LEGISLATION TO PROTECT OUR NATION'S VETERANS

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Issa, Damiani, Polisena, McBurney, and Sheehan

     WHEREAS, Upon returning from active duty, many of our country's veterans are not

fully prepared to re-enter civilian life. Common problems such as suicide, dementia, violence,

drug addiction, alcoholism, homelessness, joblessness, and Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome will

oftentimes develop weeks and sometimes months after their return home; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby respectfully urges the United States Congress to introduce and support legislation

requiring:

     That no military personnel who have served in a war zone or who are combat-

hardened be discharged from active duty until the DOD, acting through the

respective service branch, conducts a psychological profile and the soldier is

deemed prepared to re-enter civilian life; and

     That no military personnel be discharged from active duty until he or she has

been enrolled into the VA program by their respective service branch and that all

their medical records are turned over to the VA by the DOD; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation.
