S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING MAY 16-20 AS "NATIONAL EMS WEEK"

     WHEREAS, Emergency Medical Technicians are the core of our nation’s EMS systems

and provide lifesaving pre-hospital care to those in need twenty-four hours a day, seven days a

week; and

     WHEREAS, Access to quality emergency care dramatically improves the survival and

recovery rate of those who experience sudden illness or injury; and

     WHEREAS, The members of Emergency Medical Service teams, whether career or

volunteer, engage in thousands of hours of specialized training and continuing education to

enhance their lifesaving skills; and

     WHEREAS, EMS providers are critical to the successful early treatment of heart attack,

sudden cardiac arrest, stroke, and a wide variety of cardiovascular emergencies; now, therefore be

it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations,

along with the American College of Emergency Physicians and the American Heart Association

recognizes the week of May 16-20 as “National EMS Week”, in celebration of the outstanding

service EMS teams provide to our community, and in recognition of their commitment to the

fight against heart disease and stroke. Please join us in honoring the EMS providers who dedicate

themselves to the service of their community; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the President of the National EMS Association.
