S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

SUPPORTING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF GUIDELINES BY WHICH PROSPECTIVE CHANGES TO THE STATE PENSION PROGRAM SHALL BE GUIDED     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Sheehan, Gallo, Lenihan, Roberts, and Cote

     Date Introduced: June 30, 2005

 

     WHEREAS, The purpose of Article 7, Section 3, entitled “Joint Legislative Oversight

Commission on employee retirement benefits” should treat members of each respective fund in a

fair and equitable manner; and

     WHEREAS, A substantial portion of any savings resulting from cuts in each pension

program should be used to offset any unfunded liability within each respective fund with an eye

towards making each fund actuarially sound; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby supports the above referenced guideline to any prospective changes in the State Pension

Program; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Speaker of the Rhode Island House of

Representatives and the Governor of the State of Rhode Island.
