     Date Introduced: February 14, 2006

WHEREAS, America, as a nation, has been blessed by the fact that when at war, so many

of its citizens answer the call of duty and serve their nation with bravery, honor and integrity; and

WHEREAS, Sadly, when the hostilities commence, casualties occur and parents lose

their loved ones. As the old saying goes, "In peacetime children bury their parents, in time of war

parents bury their children"; and

WHEREAS, "Gold Star" Parents are parents who have lost their children while they were

serving their nation in time of war. This nation owes an enormous debt to all these grieving

parents who have sorrowfully lost children in war while serving in harms way in the United

States military; and

WHEREAS, From the beaches of Normandy and the jungles of Guadalcanal, to the

Pacific Ocean at Midway Island, from the hills of Korea and Heartbreak Ridge, to the jungles of

Vietnam and the desert in Iraq, America's service men and women have bravely served their

nation in times of peril, and parents have grieved as their children paid the ultimate sacrifice for

their nation; and

WHEREAS, Rhode Island's mothers, fathers and step-parents have lost six of their

beloved children during the war in Iraq, and many more have lost their children during other wars

and conflicts. The weight of their grief is an obligation we all must bear and we humbly thank our

fallen soldiers for their heroic service to our nation; now, therefore be it

RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby honors Rhode Island's "Gold Star" Parents. We express our

gratitude for the heroic service their children gave to our nation and offer our sincerest

condolences.
