S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING THE MONTH OF MAY, 2006 AS "AUDUBON SOCIETY MONTH" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, The admirable mission of the Audubon Society of Rhode Island "is to

conserve and restore natural ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife, and their habitats for

the benefit of humanity and the earth's biological diversity"; and

     WHEREAS, For more than one hundred years, the Society has accomplished their goals

and objectives through a statewide network of community-based nature centers and chapters who

educate the public with scientific, educational and conservation programs, as well as events that

advocate for sustaining and protecting bird populations and other wildlife species; and

     WHEREAS, The Audubon Society of Rhode Island advocates and endorses sound state

and local environmental policy. Their programs and workshops, teaching "the intricacies of

Rhode Island's ecosystems" have helped to restore, protect and preserve the "waters, forests, and

grasslands in the Ocean State" and are eminently worthy of our recognition and gratitude; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims the month of May, 2006 to be "Audubon Society Month" in the state of Rhode

Island. We commemorate the founding of the organization more than one hundred years ago and

congratulate its members for their myriad accomplishments; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Audubon Society of Rhode Island.
