H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING MAY 8, 2006 AS "CHILDREN'S MENTAL HEALTH DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Giannini, Gorham, McNamara, Menard, and

                                Naughton

     WHEREAS, The social and emotional well-being of our children, youth and families are

the key to the future of Rhode Island; and

     WHEREAS, The active promotion of social and emotional well-being is critical to our

ability to address the complex mental health needs of many of Rhode Island's children, youth and

families; and

     WHEREAS, Effective children's mental health services are those that are family driven,

youth guided and culturally and linguistically competent; and

     WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Child and Adolescent Service Systems Program (RI

CASSP), with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) as the lead state agency

assumes the critical responsibility with local communities to increase access to a comprehensive,

coordinated array of mental health services and natural supports for children, youth and families;

and

     WHEREAS, The RI CASSP, through its unique approach to serving children and

adolescents, is effectively caring for the social and emotional health and school readiness that will

bring well-being to our young children, youth and families in Rhode Island, and reduce the

stigma surrounding children's mental health; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proclaims May 8, 2006 as "Children's Mental Health Day" in the

State of Rhode Island; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That this House encourages all of Rhode Island's citizens, communities and

state and local agencies to unite on this day, in observance of such exercises as will raise the

awareness of the people of the state, with the fundamental necessity to promote social and

emotional health and well-being, to more effectively meet the mental health needs of our

children, youth and their families; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Parent Support Network, the Director of the

Department of Children, Youth and Families, and RI CASSP.
