H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

MEMORIALIZING THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO SUPPORT INCREASED FUNDING FOR THE NATIONAL ENDOWMENT

FOR THE ARTS (NEA)

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Lewiss, McNamara, Amaral, Dennigan, and Melo

     Date Introduced: May 18, 2006

 

     

      WHEREAS, The Arts are considered to be a core academic subject according to the “No

Child Left Behind Act”; and

      WHEREAS, The Arts are an indispensable component to building a high-quality,

educational foundation for all young people; and

      WHEREAS, The United States House of Representatives is currently considering the

future funding for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA); now, therefore be it

      RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby urges the Representatives to the United States Congress to vote for

an amendment to increase funding for the NEA, and to oppose any proposed decreases in funding

for NEA. It is essential to protect and guarantee teaching of the Arts for Rhode Island’s and our

nation’s children; and be it further

      RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Rhode Island Congressional Delegation.
