H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING JUNE 22, 2006 AS "PROVIDENCE BLACK REPERTORY COMPANY APPRECIATION DAY" IN THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Almeida, Costantino, Moura, Williams, and Slater

     Date Introduced: June 22, 2006

 

     WHEREAS, The Black Repertory is a unique cultural institution that celebrates the

contributions of artists from the African Diaspora; and

     WHEREAS, The Black Repertory creates an environment where cultural diversity serves

as a philosophy and where creativity flourishes through their education, theater, social events and

sound session; and

     WHEREAS, Sound Session, the genre-defying music festival produced by the Black

Repertory, has become a summer institution and a reliable economic engine for downtown

Providence; and

     WHEREAS, The Black Repertory's mission is to produce and present artistic

performances that bring people together, provoke thought, inspire hope and create understanding;

now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby proclaims June 22, 2006 as "Providence Black Repertory

Company Appreciation Day" in the State of Rhode Island in recognition of the organization's

furthering of arts and culture in our state; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Providence Black Repertory Company.
