S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

PROCLAIMING JANUARY AS "NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH" IN THE STATE OF  RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Gallo, P Fogarty, Jabour, Issa, and Felag

     WHEREAS, National Mentoring Month honors the dedicated people who are helping the

next generation to reach their full potential for a brighter future by providing leadership and

guidance; and

     WHEREAS, Mentors use their unique talents and life experiences to enrich young people

with the skills necessary for success. They commit countless hours to mentoring programs in the

areas of family, school, business and community; and

     WHEREAS, Teachers, coaches, religious leaders, business leaders, relatives and other

caring individuals who serve as mentors strengthen our communities by fostering communication,

instilling good citizenship, and exemplifying compassion; and

     WHEREAS, In our state, the Rhode Island Mentoring Program has interwoven a

statewide network of mentoring programs. Their efforts are commendable and truly worthy of

our praise and gratitude; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby proclaims January, 2007 to be “National Mentoring Month” in the State of Rhode Island.

We urge the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education to celebrate excellence in

mentoring with appropriate events, and we implore all the citizens of this state to participate in

this month long celebration recognizing the invaluable services provided by mentors and

mentorship programs in our state; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Board of Regents and the Commissioner of

Elementary and Secondary Education for the State of Rhode Island, and the Rhode Island

Mentoring Partnership.
