A N A C T

RELATING TO STATE AFFAIRS AND GOVERNMENT

         

     Introduced By: Representatives Fox, Jacquard, Kilmartin, and Diaz

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows:

 

     SECTION 1. Title 42 of the General Laws entitled "STATE AFFAIRS AND

GOVERNMENT" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following chapter:

 

     CHAPTER 150

THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE OF RHODE ISLAND TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY WORK FORCE COMMISSION

 

     42-150-1. Commission established. -- There shall be a community college of Rhode

Island twenty-first century work force commission to consist of thirteen (13) members; three (3)

of whom shall be appointed by the governor, one of whom shall be the executive director of the

Economic Development Corporation, and with one of those so appointed to be designated by the

governor as chair; two (2) of whom shall be appointed by the speaker of the house of

representatives; two (2) shall be appointed by the president of the senate; two (2) of whom shall

be appointed by the president of the community college of Rhode Island; one of whom shall be

appointed by the chair of the board of governors for higher education; one of whom shall be

appointed by the chair of the Rhode Island board of regents for elementary and secondary

education; one of whom shall be the director of the department of labor and training; and one of

whom shall be the chairperson, or vice-chairperson, of the governor's workforce development

board.

 

     42-150-2. Mission and term of commission. -- The commission shall have as its mission

the proposal of specific actions to strengthen the community college of Rhode Island's position as

a key institution in Rhode Island's effort to create a twenty-first century work force prepared for

the high wage job opportunities required for a knowledge-based economy.

 

     42-150-3. Authority to accept grants. -- The commission is authorized to accept state,

federal and private grants and appropriations for its operation purposes.

 

     42-150-4. Reporting. -- The commission shall, within eighteen (18) months, of its

formation, submit a written report to the governor and each chamber of the general assembly

detailing its findings and proposals as required by its mission.

 

     42-150-5. Expiration. -- The commission shall expire on July 1, 2010.

 

     SECTION 2. This act shall take effect upon passage.
