S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

WISHING THE HONORABLE EDWARD M. KENNEDY A FULL AND SPEEDY

RECOVERY

WHEREAS, Edward M. Kennedy, easily recognized and respected worldwide as the

Senior United States Senator from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, was recently diagnosed

with an unexpected and grave illness; and

     WHEREAS, Born in Brookline Massachusetts, on February 22nd of 1932, Senator

Kennedy entered the Senate in 1962 after being elected to complete the term of his brother, the

Honorable John F. Kennedy who had ascended to the Presidency; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Kennedy was easily re-elected in 1964 to his first full-term in the

Senate, and over the next four and a half decades in the Senate, he successfully championed vital

issues in education and health care through his deep knowledge and dedication to these causes;

and

     WHEREAS, Senator Kennedy’s election slogan during his first election was: "I can do

more for Massachusetts, "and it is a promise he has consistently kept, however, the benefits of his

accomplishments extend far beyond the borders of his home state, and he has and deserves the

admiration and gratitude of the entire nation; and

     WHEREAS, Blessed with the love and support of his large family, Senator Kennedy is

married to the former Victoria Reggie, and is the father of three children, Kara, Edward Jr., and

the Honorable Patrick Kennedy Representative for the First Congressional District of Rhode

Island; now, therefore be it

      RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby joins the rest of the nation in praying for a speedy and full recovery for The Senior

Senator from Massachusetts. We hope this tribulation will in retrospect be seen only as another

challenge successfully met, and we have confidence that his future will be filled with new

accomplishments, new opportunities, and much happiness; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to The Honorable Edward M. Kennedy.
