H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

RESPECTFULLY URGING THE GOVERNOR OF THE STATE OF RHODE ISLAND TO FLY THE "MISSING IN ATTACK ON OUR NATION" FLAG ATOP THE STATE HOUSE EVERY YEAR ON SEPTEMBER 11TH

     

     

     Introduced By: Representatives Carter, Moffitt, Gemma, Almeida, and Gallison

     WHEREAS, On September 11th of 2001, our nation was attacked by terrorists, resulting

in a tragic loss of life; and

     WHEREAS, A former United States Marine, Ron James Sorenson, who originally hailed

from Rhode Island, designed a unique flag honoring all the victims of terrorist attacks; and

     WHEREAS, The flag is entitled “Missing In Attack On Our Nation” or MIA-OON, and

displays a black silhouette of a mother holding her child’s hand upon a field of yellow.

Underneath the image, the phrase “You will always be remembered” is lettered in black; and

     WHEREAS, The image of the mother and child symbolizes the vulnerability of

innocence to terrorist attacks, and the flag’s yellow background symbolizes the hope that those

taken by terrorist attacks are never forgotten; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby respectfully requests the Governor of the State of Rhode Island to

fly the “Missing In Attack On Our Nation” flag every September 11th in perpetuity to honor the

victims of the September 11th terrorist attack and ensure that they are never forgotten; and be it

further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the Chairman of the House Committee on

Veterans’ Affairs, the Governor of the State of Rhode Island, and Ron James Sorenson.
