H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

HONORING ELIZABETH BEISEL OF SAUNDERSTOWN, RHODE ISLAND FOR HER OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACHIEVEMENTS AS AN OLYMPIC ATHLETE AND THANKING HER FOR HER VISIT TO THE STATE HOUSE AND THE RHODE ISLAND HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

      WHEREAS, Elizabeth Beisel made all Rhode Islanders proud when she not only

qualified for the United States Olympic team at the young age of sixteen but performed superbly

on the international scene when she narrowly missed qualifying for a medal at the 2008 Olympics

in China, finishing 4th in the 400 Meter Individual Medley and 5th in the backstroke; and

     WHEREAS, Elizabeth is the daughter of Ted and Joan Beisel and is a Junior at North

Kingstown High School. Elizabeth is a natural swimmer, having taken to the water at the age of

5. She holds numerous National Age Group records (NAG). She holds NAG records in the 200

yard backstroke (15-16), 400 meter individual medley (15-16), 200 meter backstroke (11-12), 200

meter individual medley (10 & under), 100 meter backstroke (10 & under), 200 meter freestyle

(10 & under), and 400 meter freestyle (10 & under); and

     WHEREAS, Elizabeth is a world class swimmer ranked highly in both the backstroke

and the individual medley. She has qualified for the National Junior Team, the 2007 World

Championship Team, made the 2006 Pan Pac Team as a thirteen year old, and finished second in

the 200 medley at the 2007 “Duel in the Pool” swimming event. As a result of these outstanding

achievements, Elizabeth Beisel was chosen the 2007 Rhode Island Female High School Athlete

of the Year; and

     WHEREAS, Despite her notable swimming achievements, Elizabeth still finds time in

her busy schedule to help those in need and to be a typical teenager. In addition to swimming, she

enjoys surfing, waterskiing, traveling, hanging out at the beach and listening to music. She also

volunteers with the Special Olympics and the Rhode Island Community Food Bank; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby heartily welcomes Elizabeth Beisel on her visit to the Rhode

Island House of Representatives. We honor her for her outstanding success and numerous

achievements in swimming and in life, and we look forward to following her as she accomplishes

more incredible feats in the swimming pool. We wish her a most joyous and successful life; and

be it further

     Resolved, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Elizabeth Beisel.
