H O U S E  R E S O L U T I O N

RECOGNIZING THE EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HENGSHUI HIGH SCHOOL HEBEI, CHINA AND THE PAWTUCKET SCHOOL DEPARTMENT

     WHEREAS, The China Exchange Initiative in Newton, Massachusetts, the Ministry of

Education (CEAIE) in Beijing, Peoples Republic of China, and the Freeman Foundation in

Stowe, Vermont have joined forces to sponsor The U.S.-China Principal Shadowing Project

(PSP); and

      WHEREAS, PSP is a unique opportunity for American school administrators to learn

about and observe their counterparts in the Republic of China’s educational system; and

     WHEREAS, The desired outcome is “to seek to achieve the highest standards for

students” by creating an opportunity for “professional development, personal growth, and

friendship” and to “enrich school curriculum and engender ongoing relationships with Chinese

counterparts”; and  

     WHEREAS, The “friendship” visits offer the partners an opportunity to learn and

observe one another’s educational systems, and provides “the opportunity to discuss future

opportunities for student and faculty exchanges and joint educational projects”; and

     WHEREAS, The Pawtucket School Department and Hengshui High School in China

have been chosen to become “Friendship Schools”; and

     WHEREAS, By pooling ideas, resources, and vision this mutually beneficial alliance will

foster increased educational, cultural and scientific opportunities for all the students in these two

school systems; and

     WHEREAS, Most successful people in the Ocean State and across the nation owe a great

measure of their achievement to the dedicated educational professionals whose hard work helped

to inspire them to strive to be the very best; and

     WHEREAS, Supporting the U.S.-China Principal Shadowing Project and the partnership

between the Pawtucket School Department and Hengshui High School is an example of the kind

of steadfast advocacy for public education that will help thousands of young people broaden their

perspective on global issues and ultimately to be more successful; now, therefore be it  

     RESOLVED, That this House of Representatives of the State of Rhode Island and

Providence Plantations hereby recognizes the educational partnership between Hengshui High

School in China and the Pawtucket School Department. We furthermore thank them for all their

efforts on behalf of the student population and wish them much success in their educational

endeavor; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to Dr. Hans W. Dellith, Pawtucket School

Superintendent, Commissioner of Education Peter McWalters, Mr. David Coughlin, Chairman of

the Pawtucket School Committee, and Mr. Wang Jianyong, Vice-Principal, Hengshui High

School Hebei, China.
