S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

DECLARING APRIL 4TH TO BE "OCEAN STATE SOCCER SCHOOL DAY" IN RHODE ISLAND

     WHEREAS, Ocean State Soccer School was founded in 1983 for the purpose of teaching

young athletes how to play the game of soccer in a non-competitive and fun environment. The

organization was formed because there was a great need at the time to teach the fundamental

aspects of the game in a fun and fair environment as opposed to the “win at all costs” philosophy

that was prevalent at the time; and

     WHEREAS, The Ocean State Soccer School has been a huge success as evidenced by its

strong growth over the years. From a modest start of sixty players, Ocean State Soccer has grown

to include as many as over one thousand children spread amongst ninety teams. Ocean State

Soccer has grown to become the largest youth soccer club in the state of Rhode Island; now,

therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby declares April 4th to be “Ocean State Soccer School Day” in the state of Rhode Island; and

be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Bob Jones, Foundation Director of the

Ocean State Soccer School.
