S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING THE RHODE ISLAND PUBLIC TRANSIT AUTHORITY TO RESTORE THE ELMWOOD/AUBURN #20 BUS LINE IN THE CITY OF CRANSTON

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Miller, Gallo, and Ruggerio

      WHEREAS, The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority was established in Title 18 of

Chapter 39 of the Rhode Island General Laws with the purpose of providing “public transit

services that meet mobility needs of the people...”; and

      WHEREAS, Currently, Rolfe Square in the City of Cranston has little to no bus service

due to the elimination of the Elmwood/Auburn # 20 bus line as of January 1st of 2009; and

      WHEREAS, The discontinuation of this line has had a significantly negative effect on

the citizens and businesses along Park Avenue and Rolfe Square, and has limited the public’s

access to both Cranston City Hall and Cranston East High School; and

      WHEREAS, In addition, this summer the Park Cinema will reopen. The reopening will

not only help to revitalize the city’s commerce, but will increase the need for additional

transportation services in the area; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby respectfully requests the Rhode Island Public Transit Authority to restore the

Elmwood/Auburn # 20 bus line in the City of Cranston forthwith; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mr. Al Moscola, General Manager of the

Rhode Island Public Transit Authority.
