S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

RESPECTFULLY REQUESTING GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION TO RETAIN THE SIMON CHEVROLET/GENERAL MOTORS FRANCHISE IN WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Picard, Cote, and Connors

     WHEREAS, The Simon Chevrolet franchise has been a mainstay in the City of

Woonsocket for a number of years; and

     WHEREAS, The General Motors Corporation plans on closing this franchise in October

of 2010; and

     WHEREAS, The closing of this business would create a great financial burden on the

citizens of Woonsocket through loss of jobs and tax revenue; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby requests General Motors Corporation to retain the Simon Chevrolet/General Motors

franchise in the City of Woonsocket; and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit duly certified copies of this resolution to the President of the Woonsocket City Council,

the Woonsocket City Clerk, the Board of Directors for the General Motors Corporation, Mr. Ed

Whitacre, Interim CEO, General Motors Corporation, and Mr. Fred Simon, Owner/Manager of

Simon Chevrolet.
