S E N A T E R E S O L U T I O N

OFFICIALLY NAMING ROOM 212 OF THE STATE HOUSE "THE ROGER R. BADEAU HEARING ROOM"

     

     

     Introduced By: Senators Ruggerio, McBurney, Paiva-Weed, Connors, and Picard

     WHEREAS, It is with great fondness that we gather here today to honor our late friend

and colleague, the Honorable Roger R. Badeau; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Badeau, a lifelong resident of the City of Woonsocket, was a caring

and devoted family man and an enormously well respected member of the Rhode Island Senate;

and

     WHEREAS, Senator Badeau was elected to the Rhode Island Senate in 1984 and would

go on to represent the people of Woonsocket and Cumberland in District 20 for twenty-three

years; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Badeau had numerous legislative accomplishments. He utilized his

abiding talent for bringing business and labor together to forge landmark legislation in the area of

workers' compensation reform in the early 1990s, and also passed legislation enabling Rhode

Islanders to access less expensive Canadian pharmaceuticals; and

     WHEREAS, All those who had the pleasure to encounter Senator Badeau, whether they

be family, friends, colleagues, constituents, or lobbyists, all knew Senator Badeau's word was his

bond; and

     WHEREAS, Senator Badeau was the longest serving Chairman of the Senate Committee

on Labor, holding that title for sixteen consecutive years; and

     WHEREAS, Senate Labor Committee meetings were run in a most expeditious but open

manner; and

     WHEREAS, Room 212 was the scene of many unforgettable meetings of the Senate

Labor Committee and served as the venue for numerous debates over labor legislation. It was in

this room that advice and consent was granted to many public servants and where much laughter

laced the discussions; and

     WHEREAS, This Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations will

always remember Senator Badeau with great admiration. We cannot think of a more fitting

tribute to him than dedicating Room 212 in honor of our dear friend, the late Senator Roger

Badeau; now, therefore be it

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby officially names Room 212 of the State House, "The Roger R. Badeau Hearing Room";

and be it further

     RESOLVED, That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to Mrs. Lucille Badeau and Family.
