S E N A T E  R E S O L U T I O N

THANKING RHODE ISLAND'S PORTUGUESE-AMERICAN COMMUNITY FOR HOSTING OPERATION HAITI

     WHEREAS, On January 12th of 2010, a magnitude 7.2 earthquake hit the Republic of

Haiti, collapsing hospitals and literally sweeping homes away in the capitol city of Port-au-

Prince; and  

     WHEREAS, Thousands of Haitians lost their lives and millions lost their homes. Water,

food, and medical resources immediately became desperately needed; and  

     WHEREAS, Members of the Portuguese-American community in New England have

stepped forward with their hearts and contributions and will host a relief concert and telethon to

benefit the victims of this tragic disaster; and  

     WHEREAS, The event will be aired February 6, 2010, on several national and

international TV stations, as well as on the radio and via the internet; now, therefore be it  

     RESOLVED, That this Senate of the State of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations

hereby applauds and thanks Rhode Island’s Portuguese-American community for its generosity

and assistance in helping to rebuild the lives and communities of the people of Haiti; and be it

further 

     RESOLVED That the Secretary of State be and he hereby is authorized and directed to

transmit a duly certified copy of this resolution to the Director of Operation Haiti.
